Considerations regarding the Sorensen model for platelet deposition and activation

Abstract. After a short description of the Sorensen model, the paper presents some original contributions on this subject. First, the platelet-mediated thrombogenesis is investigated by numerically solving the transport equations proposed in the Sorensen model, using a finite element method code, validated by comparison with previously published numerical results. Next, based upon the results of a more refined numerical study, we present a critical analysis of the model, stressing it’s limitations and proposing a set of directions to follow in order to improve it.
