Abstract
Various YbF3-concentration calcium fluoride crystals have been grown using the vertical Bridgman method. Room temperature absorption and emission spectra of the divalent ytterbium ions have been investigated. The influence of PbF2, LiF and NaF codoping on the Yb3+ -> Yb2+ conversion and on the spectroscopic properties have also been studied.
